THE “THE CREATOR OF EGYPT” EXHIBITION IS COMING TO VICENZA!

Not long now! The great exhibition on ancient Egypt will be inaugurated on 22 December 2022 in the wonderful location of the Basilica Palladiana in the center of Vicenza. From our Relais Santa Corona it can be reached in a couple of minutes on foot.

The exhibition provides a cross-section of daily life in ancient Egypt, with a particular focus on Thebes, today’s Luxor, and Deir el-Medina, the village, founded around 1500 BC, where scribes, draftsmen and craftsmen worked to build and decorate the tombs of the pharaohs in the Valleys of the Kings and Queens, shaping the imagination of the ancient civilization born on the banks of the Nile.

The exhibition brings together more than 180 objects, in addition to the Egyptian finds, there are about twenty loans from the Louvre in Paris. On display are masterpieces of statuary, sarcophagi, papyri, bas-reliefs, sculpted and painted steles, amphorae and amulets. Many treasures will be revealed during the exhibition, including the anthropoid sarcophagus of Khonsuirdis and the famous trousseau of Queen Nefertari, who returns to Italy, in Vicenza, after several years of touring abroad.

GUIDED TOURS IN VICENZA

Every Saturday the tourist office will organize walking tours around the city centre to discover the symbolic places of Vicenza. The tour will last 2 hours and the rate will be 10 euro per person, leaving at 2.15 from Iat in Piazza Matteotti, reachable in a couple of minutes walking from our Relais Santa Corona.

ME CANOVA, EUROPEAN GENIUS

Considered by his contemporaries to be the greatest living artist, Antonio Canova was celebrated as the one who had brought sculpture back to those sublime heights that were believed to be only due to classical statuary. Witness of a period of great historical and political upheavals, the humble stonemason from Possagno conquered the international art scene, competing with the greats of his time and contributing to the recovery of masterpieces through important diplomatic missions.

The man, the artist, the collector, the diplomat are the many aspects brought to light for the first time by this exhibition with which the Civic Museums of Bassano del Grappa, Vicenza, custodians of one of the collections of Canova’s works and documents large and important in the world, they pay homage to the greatest sculptor of the neoclassical era on the bicentenary of his death. About 140 works including sculptures, paintings, drawings and precious books, some of which presented to the public for the first time, guide the visitor on an ideal journey in the footsteps of Canova, from the creative universe of his atelier to the great capitals of the old continent, to discover the episodes and encounters with the characters that determined the course of his life and of European history.

Colossal statues, decorated tombs and sarcophagi, bas-reliefs and painted stelae, papyrus scrolls and millenary artifacts: these are the ingredients of the exhibition in Vicenza “The creators of eternal Egypt. Scribes, artisans and workers in the service of the pharaoh “who, through about 200 finds from the Egyptian Museum of Turin, tells the community of Deir el-Medina, the ancient village that housed the architects of the monumental tombs of the pharaohs in the Valley of the Kings and of the Queens. Our Relais Santa Corona is very close to the Palladian Basilica, just a few minutes on foot.

The famous danceur Roberto Bolle, guest at our Relais Santa Corona

Roberto Bolle has been our guest at Relais Santa Corona in Vicenza with other dancers to shoot at Palazzo Leoni Montanari, a wonderful baroque building next to us. He is currently a principal dancer with the American Ballet Theatre and a principal dancer étoile at La Scala Theatre Ballet. Bolle also dances regularly as a guest artist with the world’s leading companies, including The Royal Ballet, the Mariinsky Ballet, the Bolshoi Ballet and the Paris Opera Ballet.

SOUNDS AMONG THE MALGHE IN VICENZA

Suoni tra le Malghe – Voci delle Bregonze is a musical festival that takes place in the hills and mountains of the Alto Vicentino. Participants are invited to reach the concert venues mainly on foot, with excursions of varying length and difficulty, suitable for all needs. The proposed concerts embrace different musical genres and participation is always free. The “Sounds among the alpine pastures-Voices of the Bregonze” were created with the intention of promoting a “sweet” approach to the mountains. The mountains can be reached from Vicenza within a day and starting from our Relais Santa Corona about 50 minutes by car.

The terrace of the Palladian Basilica in Vicenza reopens

Not just a terrace with a breathtaking view, but the terrace of one of the most beautiful monuments in existence.

The terrace this year will be open from Friday 20 May 2022 until October.

To access, you need to buy a ticket at the entrance to the monument at a cost of 2 euros per person.

A place of great charm, much loved by the people of Vicenza, it allows you to admire the beauty of the historic center from above, rich in history, monuments and palaces.

The Palladian Basilica is the symbolic building of Vicenza. Renowned for the Serliane loggia, designed by the great architect Andrea Palladio, which surrounds the medieval Palazzo della Ragione, it has been included by Unesco in the list of World Heritage Sites.

HOURS: Every Friday and Saturday, from 7pm to 1am, and on Sunday from 6.30pm to 11pm, the bar service will be active. Admission is scheduled up to 30 minutes before closing.
