Palazzo Barbaran from Porto

Today is home to the Palladio Museum and the International Center of Architecture Studies Andrea Palladio. Designed by Andrea Palladio, it was the residence of the noble Montano Barbarano. The buyer’s musical interests are noticed in the representation of flutes on the facade. On the ground floor there is a 4-column atrium built on the model of the Marcello Theater in Rome; Palladio uses classic elements to mask the asymmetry of the existing building. The decoration of the inner halls was called Battista Zelotti, Anselmo Canera, Andrea Michieli, while the stuccoes were entrusted to Lorenzo Rubini (who also worked at the Loggia del Capitaniato). GUIDED TOUR VILLA VALMARANA AI NANI

The planned tour will last about one hour and the cost is 3 Euros in addition to the ticket price.

The villa dates back to the ‘700 and is famous for the frescoes by Giambattista and Giandomenico Tiepolo.

It is called “the dwarves” for the legend that wants that the owner’s daughter was suffering from dwarfism and for this reason waiters and janitors were also hired dwarves. One day a handsome prince came to the house, and the girl, realizing his situation, killed himself by jumping from the tower. The dwarves were petrified in pain.

The main building presents a series of paintings linked to mythological classic themes like the Iliad, the Aeneid, excerpts from Jerusalem Delivered by Tasso or Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso.

The villa is a “memory space” in which the characters of the epic dialogue beetween them as in a virtual theater scenes. The guesthouse has a more innovative style that recalls the Enlightenment with everyday scenes of the country life.
