A new way to visit the Olympic Theatre was conceived by the writer Alessandro Baricco with the help of the students of the Holden Turin School.
The new mode of visit will be included in the ticket price and visitors will be provided with a tablet that will accompany him in this new experience for the duration of 45 minutes. In this way the visitor will be able to virtually explore places that are not usually accessible to the public, such as the backstage of the original sets designed in the Renaissance by Palladio’s main student, Vincenzo Scamozzi.

For the visit please check the following times:

• from Tuesday 22 May and until 10 June 2018 a visit in the morning at 9.45 am and another two visits at 1 pm and 1.45 pm;
  from 12 June, at 2.15 pm, 3.00 pm and 3.45 pm (the last visit of 4.30 pm is free in traditional mode);
  from the 1st of July, at 3.15 pm, 4.00 pm and 4.45 pm (the last visit of 5.30 pm will remain free in traditional mode);
  from 1 September, we return at 2.15 pm, 3.00 pm and 3.45 pm (the last visit of 4.30 pm remains free in traditional mode)

Un nuovo modo di visitare il Teatro Olimpico è stato ideato dallo scrittore Alessandro Baricco con l’aiuto degli allievi della scuola torinese Holden.
La nuova modalità di visita sarà inclusa nel prezzo del biglietto e ai visitatori verrà fornito un tablet che lo accompagnerà in questa nuova esperienza per la durata di 45 minuti. Il visitatore potrà in questo modo esplorare virtualmente luoghi solitamente non accessibili al pubblico come il dietro le quinte delle scenografie originali progettate nel rinascimento dal principale allievo di Palladio, Vincenzo Scamozzi.

Gli ingressi saranno cadenzati con i seguenti orari:

• a partire da martedì 22 maggio e fino al 10 giugno 2018 una visita al mattino alle 9.45 e altre due visite alle 13 e alle 13.45;
• dal 12 giugno, alle ore 14.15, 15.00 e 15.45 (rimanendo libera in modalità tradizionale l’ultima visita delle 16.30);
• dal 1° luglio, alle ore 15.15, 16.00 e 16.45 (rimanendo libera in modalità tradizionale l’ultima visita delle 17.30);
• dal 1° settembre, si ritorna alle ore 14.15, 15.00 e 15.45 (rimanendo libera in modalità tradizionale l’ultima visita delle 16.30)

The tourist guides of Vicenza have organized a visit of Villa Capra called La Rotonda for the day 1 May 2018 starting at 15.30. The cost of admission and visit is € 15.00 and the appointment is at the entrance of the villa at 15.15. Commisioned to Andrea Palladio by the Cardinal Paolo Almerico in 1570 VILLA CAPRA wasn’t completed at the time of the architect’s death in 1580. Vincenzo Scamozzi realized the dome, which gave to the construction the current name. This is one of the last masterpieces of the architect, who focused all of this ideas on this project, using the simmetries and the shape of the hill. The villa is perfectly simmetrical without any particular section on which you can focus on. This project is an icon that has gone to inspire other architects.

The villa was designed as a peaceful retreat and status symbol for the rich owner. Here we can notice the artistic genius of Palladio: he designed a bulding that is an intimate and private household but with an intent to surprise with its classic beauty and structural perfection of bulding which represents the owner’s social class. This is the sum of the Renaissance ideals and he architect’s testament who perfonified in his art the value and commitment ( impegno) of the time by mixing it with his brilliance, ingeniuity (ingegno), his fantasy and his perception of the classical architecture of the past.

Il costo dell’ingresso e visita è di euro 15,00 e l’appuntamento è all’ingresso della villa alle ore 15.15. Commissionata al Palladio dal Cardinale Paolo Almerico nel 1570, VILLA CAPRA era ancora non completata alla morte dell’architetto avvenuta nel 1580. Vincenzo Scamozzi realizza il tetto a cupola rotonda, da cui l’appellativo della villa, e la porta a termine nel 1585. Rimane uno degli ultimi capolavori del Palladio, che libero da vincoli e sfruttando mirabilmente le simmetrie e la conformazione della lieve e rotondeggiante altura, può esprimere e allo stesso tempo concentrare in questo progetto tutte le sue idee. Il risultato sarà una realizzazione dalla simmetria perfetta, senza apparenti lati focali, un’icona della monumentalità. La ‘Rotonda’ è stata concepita principalmente come prestigioso luogo di rappresentanza e tranquillo rifugio di meditazione e studio per il ricco proprietario. In questo sta il genio dell’artista: concretizzare le aspirazioni di apparire e stupire, da parte del committente, la sua cultura ed il suo concetto di bellezza assoluta, classicheggiante, in un oggetto, la casa, al tempo stesso simbolo di proprietà intimistica, rifugio privatissimo. In questo senso la ‘Rotonda’ è opera compiuta che trascende le sorti del suo primo e, sotto questo aspetto, unico proprietario per diventare icona di quella filosofia, quasi una versione privata degli ideali rinascimentali. Al tempo stesso è sunto e testamento dell’artista, che concretizza le esigenze della committenza mescolandole alle sue intuizioni, alla sua genialità, alla sua fantasia, alla sua percezione della classicità.

The master Roberto Jonata will present on March 23 at Palazzo Chiericati his latest album, “shape”, soundtrack of the 30th national festival the Golden Mask.

The concert will be held at 21.00 and is free subject to availability. Palazzo Chiericati was designed by Andrea Palladio and is a couple of minutes’ walk from our Relais Santa Corona.

Jonata will use the piano to express the concept of art in all its forms and emotions that it can evoke; the concert is dedicated to the city of Vicenza, the artist’s birthplace.

Il maestro Roberto Jonata presenterà il 23 marzo prossimo a Palazzo Chiericati il suo ultimo album, “shape“, colonna sonora del 30° festival nazionale la Maschera d’Oro.

Il concerto si terrà alle ore 21.00 ed è gratuito fino ad esaurimento posti. Palazzo Chiericati fu progettato da Andrea Palladio e dista dal nostro Relais Santa Corona un paio di minuti a piedi.

Jonata utilizzerà il pianoforte per esprimere il concetto di arte in tutte le sue forme e alle emozioni che sa rievocare; il concerto è dedicato alla città di Vicenza, città natale dell’artista.

Many customers during breakfast ask us for information on this typical dessert that we prepare every day. What is macafame?

This typical Vicenza cake is made with poor recycling ingredients like old bread, eggs and milk. The name would mean that “affects hunger” as a slice is enough for breakfast or a snack, perhaps combined with seasonal fruit.

The cake was cooked by the farmers in the stoves, but you can still prepare them using the oven.

But how do we prepare the Macafame in Vicenza at Relais Santa Corona? We see following the recipe followed by our hotel!

First of all we keep aside the bread of the day before (if it is advanced it makes the use of some brioche even tastier), about 300 grams. We line a cake mold and break the bread with your hands. In a bowl, pour the warmed milk, two tablespoons of honey and two of sugar, preferably of cane, two beaten eggs. Add a handful of raisins and an apple cut into cubes. For those who like it you can enrich the mixture with dried figs, prunes or dried fruit. Pour the mixture over the crumbled bread and mix the obtained mixture; let it rest in a warm place for at least a couple of hours, stirring the mixture occasionally so as to soak the bread well. Sprinkle with plenty of cane sugar, cinnamon; add a few knobs of butter to make it more tasty (about 30-40 grams). The dessert cooks a quartina of minutes at 180 degrees.

Molti clienti durante la prima colazione ci domandano informazioni su questo dolce tipico che prepariamo tutti i giorni. Ma che cos’è il macafame?

Questa torta tipica vicentina è fatta con ingredienti poveri di riciclo come il pane vecchio, uova e latte. Il nome vorrebbe significare che “ammacca la fame” in quanto una fetta è sufficiente per colazione o una spuntino, magari abbinata a frutta di stagione.

Il dolce veniva cotto dai contadini nelle stufe ma si può preparare ugualmente usando il forno.

Ma come prepariamo noi a Vicenza al Relais Santa Corona il Macafame? Vediamo a seguito la ricetta seguita dal nostro hotel!

Innanzitutto teniamo da parte del pane del giorno prima (se è avanzata lo rende piu’ saporito anche l’uso di qualche brioche), circa 300 grammi. Foderiamo uno stampo da torta e spezzettiamo il pane con le mani. In una ciotola versiamo il latte intiepidito, due cucchiai di miele e due di zucchero possibilmente di canna, due uova sbattute. Aggiungiamo una manciata di uva passa ed una mela tagliata a dadini. Per chi piace si può arricchire il composto con fichi secchi, prugne o frutta secca. Versiamo il composto sul pane sbriciolato e mescoliamo il composto ottenuto; lasciamo riposare in un luogo caldo per almeno un paio di ore, mescolando il composto saltuariamente in modo da far inzuppare bene il pane. Spolverizziamo con abbondante zucchero di canna, cannella; aggiungiamo qualche fiocchetto di burro per renderlo piu’ gustoso (circa 30-40 grammi). Il dolce cuoce una quartina di minuti a 180 gradi.
